Gerald “Jerry” E. Vogel, 92 of Ottawa and formerly of Grand Ridge passed away Monday evening September 27, 2021 at his home.
A visitation will be held Saturday from 4 – 7 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM at the Grand Ridge Funeral Home with social distancing being followed and masks being worn. A private family graveside service will be held at the Grand Ridge Cemetery with full military honors conducted.
Jerry was born on July 10, 1929 in Leonore to Peter and Grace (Miller) Vogel. He married Jean Kmetz on October 18, 1950. She preceded him in death on October 3, 1993.
He is survived by his wife Marlene, whom he married on May 14, 1994, also surviving are children; Gary (Stephanie) Vogel of S. Dakota, Craig (Louann) Vogel of Grand Ridge, Joyce (David) Butler of Florida, Jeff (Monica) Vogel of N. Carolina, Cindy (Chris) Eckenberg of Florida and Vicki (Kent) Bussinger of Colorado, step-children, Gary (Mary) Winter of Marseilles and Lori (Bruce) Griffith of Arizona, 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, brother Jim (Dixie) Vogel of Cornell and several nieces and nephews.
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, his 1st wife Jean, granddaughter Nikki Vogel, daughter-in-law Mary Jo Vogel and 7 siblings.
Jerry graduated from Streator High School in 1947. He served in the US Army as a MP during the Korean Conflict. Jerry retired in 1991 after 39 years in the Insurance Business. He served with the Grand Ridge Fire Department, Grand Ridge Village Board and was a member of the St. Mary of the Fields Church in Grand Ridge.
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Memorials may be made in his name to either the Grand Ridge Fire Department or St. Mary’s of the Fields Church.
