Zella Slafer

Zella Slafer, 80 passed away Monday evening at her daughter's home in Streator. Zella was born in Holiday IL to Homer and Katie (Alsop) Fowler on Aug. 26, 1929. She lived in the Seneca/Marseilles area until moving to Streator a year ago to be cared for by her daughter and son-in-law Andrea and Terry Dobyns.

Zella was a loving mother to her children who survive her Cheryl Albertus, Janet Lyle and Brenda (Rodger) Fought of Ottawa, Angela Dahl and David (Sue) Slafer of Marseilles and Andrea (Terry) Dobyns of Streator. She has 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Also surviving are sisters Doris (Fred) Doty of Benton, KY, Vera Bootle of Morris, brothers Ronald Fowler (Luella) of Zephyrhills, FL and James (Pamela) Fowler of Mohamet, IL.

Zella was preceded in death by a daughter Cynthia in infancy, a son Ricky Bennett, her husband, Melvin Slafer, who passed in August of 1996, 2 brothers Marvin and Homer Fowler, 2 sisters Patsy Gumm and Sandra Black and two sisters and a brother in infancy.

At Zella's request private services are being planned by her children and cremation is being handled by Winterrowd Funeral Home in Streator.
