Virginia "Smitty" Marye Vargas

Virginia "Smitty" Marye Vargas 65 of Streator passed away Tuesday afternoon (Aug. 23rd) at her home.
A visitation will be held on Friday from 4-7PM at the Winterrowd Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11AM at the funeral home.
Following cremation, burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.
Virginia was born on February 15, 1946 in Streator, IL to Fred and Marye (Burkett) Smith.
She married Joe Vargas on November 21, 1969. He survives.
Also surviving is a son, Michael (Jamie Novak) Vargas of Streator, daughter, Marye Jo (Bernard VonRuden) Vargas of Streator, step-daughter, Becky Vargas of FL, 10 grandchildren, Justin, Wally, Wyhat, and Madison Vargas, Caleb Novak, Derek and Dylan Vargas, Lacie Turner,and Myriah and Gabby Gonzales, 3 great-grandchildren, Ashlyn, Brayden and Connor, brother, Gene (Pat) Smith of Dana, sister-in-law, Lupe Vargas of Streator, and several nieces and nephews, including John Smith of Streator.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a step-son, Joe Vargas Jr., and brother, Donald Smith.
Virginia owned and operated the former Triple- K in Streator.
She graduated from Woodland High School in 1964 and was a member of the Church of the Open Bible.
Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
