Robert A. Rommelfaenger

Robert Arthur Rommelfaenger, 84, of Streator passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2026.

Born in Sheboygan, WI on 5/1/42 to Roland Jacob and Marcella Anna (Grabinger) Rommelfaenger his family (including sister Sharon) moved to Chicago when he was ten years old.

He met and married his high school sweetheart Rosann (Thompson) Rommelfaenger on August 20, 1960. After a few early jobs to support their girls, Michele and Cindy, Bob and Rosann both joined the Chicago Police Department where they proudly served their community until retirement in 1995.

They settled in Streator, where they frequently vacationed and enjoyed being outdoors and in nature, away from city life. They built a home there – literally and figuratively – where their family would meet for so many holidays and major life events over the coming thirty years.

Bob spent his retirement years a fervent caretaker – of his wife, of their land, of their many dogs, and of his community. He was a gentle soul and soft spoken. These characteristics never detracted from his inner strength and strong commitment to keep those he loved safe and well. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Bob is survived by his sister Sharon (Ronnie) Harkala, daughters Michele (Lenny) Koniewicz of Aurora, Cindy (Kenny) Mace of Augusta, Georgia, beloved daughter-in-law Kathy Macnider of Belvidere, seven grandchildren Cora (Joe), Lisa (Cameron), Jacob, Caitee, and Molly (Jeremy), Mike (Hannah), Bob (Trista) and great-grandsons Braden, Luke, and Soren.

He was preceded in passing by his son Butch Macnider, granddaughter Denise Rommelfaenger, and great-grandson Maddox Ford Gettys.

In lieu of a memorial or service now, a celebration of his life will be held with friends and family later this summer. He will be laid to rest with his loving wife in Dee Dee’s garden at the family home.
