Robert J. Micklos, 94 of Streator passed away Wednesday morning (September 5th) at the LaSalle Veterans Home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday at 11:00 AM at St. Michael the Archangel Church.  A visitation will be held Friday from 9 – 10:30 AM at the Winterrowd Funeral Home.  Burial will be in St. Stephen’s Cemetery with full military honors conducted by members of the Streator American Legion and VFW.

Serving as pallbearers will be his grandchildren.

Bob was born on August 18, 1924 in Streator to Andrew and Pauline (Fetsko) Micklos.  He married Grace Harcharik on October 18, 1947 and she preceded him in death on August 14, 1993.  He later married Irene Gutek on July 30, 2000.  She preceded him in death on February 16, 2012.

Also surviving are children Randy (Sandy) Micklos of Roselle, Bobby Micklos of Streator, Rick Micklos of Huntley, Mary (Ed) Van Grevenhof of Streator and Nancy (Kevin) Hagerty of Streator, 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, brother Lawrence “Rick” (Diana) Micklos of Ft. Meyers, FL , sister Marlene (Ronald) Durham of Streator and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by both his wives, a daughter Jacqueline in infancy, great-grandson AJ, brothers Jerome, Louis and Andrew and a sister Mildred Blakemore.

Bob attended St. Stephen’s Grade School and Streator High School.  He served in the US Army from 1943 to 1947 in the Asian Pacific and Army of Occupation in Korea in 1945.  Bob retired from the former Peabody Meyers in 1987 and retired from Shelter Insurance in 2000.  He was a member of the St. Michael the Archangel Church and the Streator VFW.  Bob played softball in Streator and surrounding areas and was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, Dallas Cowboys and Notre Dame.

Memorials may be made in his name to either the Illinois LaSalle Veterans Home or to a charity of the donors choice.
