Phyllis G. Quaka

Phyllis G. Quaka, 92 of Tonica passed away Wednesday (June 26, 2019) at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.

A visitation will be held Monday from 5 – 8 PM at the Grand Ridge Funeral Home with the rosary recited at 4:45 PM and Tuesday from 9 – 10 AM at the Holy Family Catholic Church.   Mass of Christian Burial will be said Tuesday at 10 AM at the Holy Family Catholic Church, Oglesby.  Burial will be in the Grand Ridge Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons, Justin, Colton, Nathan Quaka, Brian McMullen, Dustin Bauer and Matt Greve.

Phyllis was born on August 20, 1926 in Ottawa to Lloyd and Lulu (Carter) Provance.  She married Andrew A. Quaka on October 7, 1944.  He preceded her in death on April 8, 2005.

Surviving are children Mark (Manirat) Quaka of Princeton, Steven (Cheryl) Quaka of Mazon, Paula “Janie” Quaka of Tonica and Christopher Quaka of Tonica, grandchildren, Justin Quaka, Colton Quaka, Megan Bauer, Holly Piper, Brian McMullen, Mary Quaka-Greve, Nancy Quaka-Walters, Katie Quaka-Hubbard, Nathan Quaka and Kaewta Quaka and 14 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Michael, daughter Carole McMullen, great-granddaughter Addison Renee Quaka, sister Maxine Landers, brothers Verlyn and Donald Provance.

Phyllis attended and graduated from the Grand Ridge Grade School and High School.  She retired as a nurse and a private care duty nurse after many years.  Phyllis was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Auxiliary.  She enjoyed cooking, quilting, sewing, reading, gardening and traveling.

Memorials may be made in her name to a charity of the donors choice.
