Peggy Pegum Libby, a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by love. She was born on February 6, 1950, in Emmetsburg, Iowa, to Loretta (Besaw) Pegum and Gabriel Pegum, and grew up in the small, close‑knit town of Graettinger, Iowa. Peggy was raised in a big, loving family with her siblings: Donna (Norman Nissen), Donald “Fib” (Susan Pegum), Darold “Red” (Barb Pegum), Mary, and Bill Libby. She was the proud mother of Tina Togstad‑Beavers, and the loving grandmother of Kyle (Lindsay) Beavers, Gabriel Beavers, Zaiden Horn, and great‑granddaughter Lennix “Lenny” Beavers. Peggy also had two stepchildren who were part of her extended family: Mary Jean Libby‑Persinger, who preceded her in death along with her husband, Leroy Persinger, and Keith Libby, who survives her with his wife, Nicole. Peggy worked hard her entire life. She served as a CNA in nursing homes, worked at Thatcher’s and R.R. Donnelley, and spent many years babysitting, cleaning, cooking, and helping anyone who needed her. She was a giving woman with a strong work ethic and a heart that never stopped caring for others. Peggy had a personality that could light up a room — a mix of sweetness, stubbornness, and that unmistakable sassy attitude everyone knew and loved. She didn’t sugarcoat anything, and she had a way of telling the truth that made people laugh even when she wasn’t trying to. Her sass was part of her charm and part of what made her unforgettable. As she grew older, Peggy enjoyed thrift shopping, crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, euchre, bowling, and fishing. She was happiest when she was baking or cooking for the people she loved — and she always made sure no one left her home hungry. Peggy shared her life with her loyal dog, Skip, who was never far from her side. Skip adored her, and she adored him right back. She is preceded in death by her parents; siblings Donna, Fib, and Red; and her stepdaughter Mary Jean Libby‑Persinger. A special thank‑you goes to Steven and Kirsten Gribbin and their family for the unwavering support and kindness they showed her. She loved you deeply and cherished Avery and Abby as if they were her own grandchildren. Peggy will be remembered for her strength, her humor, her sass, and the way she made everyone feel welcome. Her loving spirit lives on in all who knew her. A celebration of life will be set at a later date.
