Mary Lou Schmitt

Mary Lou Schmitt, 94 of Grand Ridge passed away Wednesday (June 29, 2022) at Ottawa Pavilion.

Visitation will be held Saturday (July 2^nd) from 9:30 until 11:30 AM at the Grand Ridge Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be held at 11:30 at the funeral home with Pastor Anne Ferguson officiating.  Burial will be in Grand Ridge Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be, John T. Torres Sr, John Torres, Will Schmitt, Eric Wilkinson, Virl Hallett and Bill Schultz.

Mary Lou was born on October 12, 1927 in Grand Rapids Twp. to Elmer and Carrie (Roser) Kates.  She married Arthur “Dewey” Schmitt on December 18, 1948.  He preceded her in death on August 20, 2010.

Surviving is son, Craig (Janet) Schmitt of Knoxville, TN, daughter, Janet (John) Torres of Ottawa, grandchildren, Tami (Eric) Wilkinson, John (Michelle) Torres, Will Schmitt and Carrie Schmitt, great grandchildren, Beckham, Maya, Bronson and Morgan.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Dewey and a sister Rita Hallett.

Mary Lou attended the Grand Ridge grade school and high school, graduating from Ottawa High School in 1945.  She retired from the Grand Ridge First National Bank in 1990.  Mary Lou was a member of the Grand Ridge United Methodist Church.  She was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and as she would say “Go Cubs Go”

Memorials may be made in her name to the Grand Ridge United Methodist Church or to the family of Mary Lou Schmitt.
