Lyle J. Nichols, 83 of Streator and formerly of Grand Ridge passed away Monday evening (July 4th) at his home.
A visitation will be held on Friday from 4-8PM at the Grand Ridge Funeral Home with the rosary recited at 3:50PM.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10AM at St. Mary's of the Fields Church in Grand Ridge.
Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Ransom with full military honors conducted by the Streator American Legion and Streator VFW. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Jeffrey and Brady Nichols, Jon Kilquist, Doug Cass, Brian Bressner, and nephew, Greg Durdan.
Lyle was born August 13, 1927 in Ottawa, IL to Russel and Eddith (Kinman) Nichols.
He married Mary Durdan on August 18, 1951. She survives.
Also surviving are children, Dave (Joan) Nichols of Murphysboro, IL, Debbie Bressner of Streator, and Dan (Lori) Nichols of Streator, 11 grandchildren, 1 great-grandson, and 2 great-grandchildren on the way, brother, Elden Nichols of Ransom, and several nieces and nephews.
Lyle attended McCombs grade school District 98 in Farm Ridge Township.
He was a member of St. Mary's of the Fields Church.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1945-1949 in the South Pacific. Lyle retired from LaSalle County Highway Department and farmed for 30 years in the Grand Ridge area. He was a member of the Streator VFW, Streator Knights of Columbus, and the LaSalle County Farm Bureau.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Mary's of the Fields or the Grand Ridge Fire Department.
