Josephine Ann Ely

Josephine Ann Ely, 91 of Cornell passed away Sunday (March 10, 2019) at the Evenglow Health Care, Pontiac.

Visitation will be held Friday (March 15^th) from 10 – 12 noon at the Winterrowd Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be held Friday at noon at the funeral home.  Cremation rites will follow services and burial will be in the Cornell Cemetery on Tuesday (March 19^th) at 10 AM.

Josephine was born on August 27, 1927 in Newton County, IN to Arlie and Velma (Bassett) Brunton.  She married Donald Ely on May 4, 1947.  He preceded her in death on August 8, 2018.

Surviving are children, daughter Carol (Leslie) Leach of East Peoria, son Kenneth (Christena) Ely of Titusville, FL, 3 grandchildren, Brian (Ann) Leach of Orland Park, Julie (Nicholas) Powers of Dunlap, Erich (Sara Goldberg) Ely of New York, 4 great-grandchildren, Jacob and Hayley Powers, Grace and Aidan Leach, sister Norma Cooper of N. Fort Myers, FL and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers Delbert, Ray, Jim and Teddy Brunton, sisters Jean Yoder and Joyce Jackson.

Josephine graduated from Cornell High School in 1946.  She was formerly employed at Crouch’s Clothing in Pontiac and also helped her husband farm in the Cornell area.  She was a member of the Cornell United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either the Cornell United Methodist Church or a charity of the donor’s choice.
