John R. Negray

John R. Negray III, 72 of Streator passed away Sunday evening (August 20^th).

Visitation will be held Wednesday from 9 – 11 AM at the Winterrowd Funeral Home.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday at 11:30AM at the St. Michael the Archangel Church with Fr. Ray Guthrie officiating.  Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Serving as pallbearers will be sons, Eric and Brett, grandsons Jake, Luke, Chase Negray and nephew Todd Olesen.

Honorary will be granddaughters Ashley, Justeen and Natalie and grandson John Lester Negray.

John was born on September 27, 1944 in Streator to John J. and Betty (Berg) Negray II.  He married June Robertson on August 22, 1964.  She survives.

Also surviving are sons Eric (Ramel) Negray and Brett Negray, both of Streator, grandchildren, Luke Kling, Jake, Ashley, Justeen, Natalie, Chase and John Lester Negray, 6 great-grandchildren, sisters Jeri Spandet of Florida and Jeanne Sarnes of Streator, brothers, Mike and Tim (Faith) Negray, both of Streator and several nieces and nephews.

John is preceded in death by his parents, son Shane and in-laws Lester and Shirley Robertson.

He attended St. Stephen’s Grade School and graduated from Woodland High School in 1962.  John was founder of Streator Masonry and was a member of the Bricklayers Allied Craftsmen # 6, Streator Eagles and St. Michael the Archangel Church.  He enjoyed hunting, trapping, gardening and watching the Chicago Cubs.

Memorials may be made in his name to either St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or to Shriners Hospital for Children.
