John C. Carvish

March 18, 1937 — October 18, 2017

John C. Carvish, 80 of Streator passed away Wednesday evening (October 18th) at OSF St. Elizabeth Medical Center.

A visitation will be held Monday from 10 – 12noon at the Winterrowd Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be held Monday at noon at the funeral home.  Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Wenona.

Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons.

John was born on March 18, 1937 in Wenona to John and Mary (Vanda) Carvish.  He married Wanda Murphy on February 15, 1958 and later married Mary Jo Harrell on April 8, 1974.  She survives.

Also surviving are children John Carvish of Azle, TX, James (Julie) Carvish of Chico, TX, Jacquelyne (Jim) Nitek of Conrath, WS, Jeffrey (Rick) Carvish of Lake Elsinore, CA, Julie (Jim) Servens, Aurora, TX and Jina (Randy) Jernigan of Boyd, TX, 19 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandson, sisters-in-law Edna Heyde of St. Louis, MO, Betty Sanford of Decatur and Helen Wolfe of Naperville and several nieces and nephews along with many friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a grandson James and a brother Peter.

John attended St. Mary’s Grade School and Wenona High School.  He retired from Thatcher Glass as a machine operator in 1993 after 33 years and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church for 13 years.  John was a member of St. Michael’s the Archangel Church and Streator Eagles Club.  He enjoyed working in his yard, going out to Las Vegas and the Paradise in Peoria and watching the Pickers Program on TV.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Stroke Foundation or Kidney Foundation.

The family would like to give a special Thank You to Heritage Health & Therapy Department for the special care that was given to John.
