Joan Gail Long

Joan G. Long, 83 of rural Streator passed away Tuesday morning (November 7, 2023) at her home.

A visitation will be held Friday from 4 – 7 PM with services following at 7PM at the Winterrowd Funeral Home, cremation rites will follow services.  Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 11AM at Long Point Cemetery.

Joan was born on September 9, 1940, in Streator to Loren and Doris (Custis) Redfern.  She married Richard Long on June 25, 1962.  He preceded her in death on April 18, 2005.

Surviving are daughters, Rebecca (Bob Hill) Long of Peoria and Deborah (Jim) Thomas of Streator, grandchildren, Courtney (Jake Walker) Thomas, Jessica Thomas, Haylee (Jarred Kress) Thomas, Pierce and Zoey Hill, great grandchildren, Cade, Lucas, Levi, Chase and Tysen, sister Donna (Bill) Berge of Cornell and several nieces and nephews and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her parents and husband Richard.

Joan graduated from Cornell High School in 1958.  She received her bachelor’s degree in teaching in 1962 and her master’s degree in 1985.  She retired from teaching at Streator Elementary School District in 2004.  Joan was a member of the Park Presbyterian Church, Lindy Club and various quilting groups.  She enjoyed reading and traveling.

Memorials may be made in her name to the Long Point Fire Department.
