James “Tate” E. Taylor, 80 of Streator passed away Sunday (April 19, 2026) at his home surrounded by loved ones.
Visitation will be held Monday (Apr. 27th) from 10AM until 12noon at the Winterrowd Funeral Home with services following at noon. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery.
Tate was born on August 19, 1945, in Wilmington to James A. and Helen S. (Hansen) Taylor.
Surviving are sons, James F. (Diane) Taylor of Streator and Matthew A. (Elizabeth Schnindler) Taylor of Peoria, daughter, Tara L. (Shane Putman) Taylor of Streator, grandchildren, Lainee, James Jr., Abbigale, Kylie, Robert, James, Michael, Justin, Stephanie and Dylan, 15 great grandchildren, sister Marlene Simpson of Streator, brothers, Robert (Eileen) Haughtigan of Streator and Kenneth (Patricia) Taylor of Streator.
He is preceded in death by his parents, daughter Kim Sphar, great granddaughter Adalejda, sisters Joanne Behrens and Alice Flowers and brother Bernard Haughtigan.
Tate attended Streator Grade Schools and graduated from Streator High School in 1963. He retired after 51 years at C.M.R. in Streator. While working for C.M.R he served as G.M.P union president for many years traveling and negotiating union labor contracts. After retirement he taught Pipefitting at IVCC. In his younger days he bartended at different establishments throughout Streator. Tate had a lifelong love for motorcycles, gardening a variety of vegetables, his favorite being sweet peppers and tomatoes. He also loved maintaining his home and home improvement projects. He was a member of the Sandy Ford Sportsman Club and the N.R.A.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Shriners Children’s Hospital.
