Helen Ann Holz, 77 of Ancona passed away Friday (July 4, 2025) at the Arc of Streator.
A visitation will be held Wednesday from 10 – 11 A.M. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Private family services will follow at the church with Pastor Bill Callister officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Ken Hamann, Doug, Dave and Jackson Miller, Adam and Cody Anderson.
Helen was born on January 5, 1948, in Pana, IL to Robert and Ellen (Sminchak) Sphar. She married Herb Holz on June 30, 1967. He survives.
Also surviving is her daughter Mini (Don) Miller of Tonica, grandsons, Donnie (Erica) Miller of Lostant and Dustin (Emily) Miller of Tonica, great grandchildren, Herbie, Charlie Sue, Hudson and Brooks.
She is preceded in death by her parents, brother Bob Sphar and sister Ellen Redd.
Helen attended Streator Grade Schools and graduated from Streator High School in 1966. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Helen worked part time at Murphy’s Drug store during her senior year in high school. Then for Krenz Refrigeration. She loved farm life and could do almost any job from Livestock to planting and harvesting. She loved to crib ear corn. She was actively involved with the trucking business also. During these years she also was a Livingston County Board Member, serving on many committees for 19 years. During that time the new jail was planned for and built. She was an officer in the Hobby Show with a fine group of other volunteers.
Memorials may be made in her name to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church or the Long Point Fire Department.
