Harold (Harry) Louis Holmes,
beloved father and husband, 79, of
Streator died Saturday, November 15, 2008,
at Heritage Manor Nursing Home,
where he has resided and been lovingly cared for the past one and a half years.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, November 18, 2008, at Winterrowd-
Hagi Funeral Home, with visitation from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. and memorial service
following at 7:00 p.m., with the Reverend Charles Cline of Central Church of
Christ officiating, with interment at a later date.
Harry was born August 11, 1929 in Streator to Clarence and Irene Hoffner Flanigan Holmes.
He married Marilyn Thomas on December 3, 1949. She survives.
Also surviving are daughters Karen (Dale) Wilkinson of Streator,
Janice (Robert) Kohan of Naperville, Debra (Chris) Clayton of Streator, and
Barbie (Ken) Sunell of Grand Rapids, MN; one son, Scott (Jan) Holmes of
Bloomington; 16 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren; a brother, Clarence
(Marge) Holmes of Grand Rapids, MN; a sister, Martha Neiggemann of Streator;
and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are his parents; adopted father, Oscar Holmes; a step-
sister, Thelma Barry; a son, Lawrence (Larry); a grandson and a great
granddaughter, both in infancy; and his best friend, his dog Stud.
Harry was lovingly known to his family as Paw-Paw. He loved bowling,
a good Euchre game, fishing, hunting, and the simple life of sitting on a lake
in God's Country (Northern Minnesota). He was previously employed as a welder
at Knoedler's Manufacturing in Streator and A.S.V. Inc. in Grand Rapids, MN.
Honorary pallbearers will be grandchildren Mark, Matt, Mike, Dale
(D.J.), and Sarah Wilkinson, Missy Yurco and Kimmie Harvish, Justin and Joshua
Holmes, Michon, Jared, and Chad Holmes, Zach and Alex Clayton, and Karmi and
Kegan Sunell.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are directed to the family.
