On Wednesday, July 22, 2026, George D. Hanchett, age 85, of Streator, passed away peacefully at Villas of Hollybrook. George was born in Bradford, IL to Gerald E. and Gertrude E. (Parks) Hanchett. For much of his young life, George lived in Kewanee, Illinois. It was there that he met and married the love of his life, Donna L. Scaggs on May 14, 1960. They shared 58 years together as husband and wife before she preceded him in death on March 22, 2019.
After graduating from Kewanee High School George served in the U.S. Army National Guard and worked for International Harvester, Hyster, and Parker Hannefin. With an extremely dedicated work ethic and determination, George climbed the ladder and went from delivering newspapers as a young school boy to cutting boards in the shop at Hyster then to purchasing manager and on to being an account manager for Parker Hannefin. He was dedicated to giving it all to every job, project or task he took on. He was a member of the Streator 1st United Methodist Church, and the country line dancing group, Boot Kickers. He and Donna made great memories raising their family, traveling, playing cards, meeting new friends, and line dancing.
Geoge is survived by one daughter, Shelley (John) Maubach of Morris; two sons, James (Christine) Hanchett of Streator and Joe (Debbie) Hanchett of Bloomington, IL; four grandchildren, Kurt (Lisa) Maubach, Ashley Maubach, Ben Hanchett, Heather (Eric) Even of Bloomington and great grandchildren, Milo Even and Kalli Maubach as well as a sister, Nancy Van Wassenhove of Georgia.
The family would like to extend our sincere thanks and appreciation for the exceptional care given to our father by the caregivers and team at Villas of Hollybrook as well as Transitions Hospice.
Visitation for George Hanchett will be at Winterowd Funeral Home, Streator. The visitation will be at 11:00 a.m. and services at 12:00. As it was George’s request, cremation rites have been accorded. A private interment at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Streator, IL will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name to Transitions Hospice, Peoria, IL or First United Methodist Church of Streator would be appreciated.
