Doris K. Gaydos

Doris Gaydos, 80, passed away April 19, 2016 at Hope Hospice in Lehigh Acres, Florida. A visitation will be held Monday April 25th from 9 – 11 AM at the Winterrowd Funeral Home.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday at 11:30 AM at the St. Michael the Archangel Parish Church.  Burial will be in St. Stephen’s Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tara Allen, Charlie Allen, Heather True, Matt True, Daniel Gaydos, Brittany Metivier, Thomas Gaydos and Colleen Gaydos.

Doris was born May 27, 1935 in Deerwood, Minnesota to Marion Kile and Elizabeth (Schammel) Kile. Doris’ father’s job took them to many towns in Minnesota during her young life, but eventually they settled in her mother’s hometown of Granville, Illinois, where Doris graduated from Hopkins High School. Doris went on to graduate from Illinois State Normal University.  On June 7, 1958, Doris married the love of her life, Bernard Gaydos and together they built a loving life full of laughter and friends.

Doris worked for many years at St Mary’s Hospital in Streator and Ottawa Community Hospital as a medical transcriptionist.  She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and gardening - her prized raspberry patch provided many batches of jam and jelly over the years. She was a member of the choir at St Michael the Archangel Parish for 52 years. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother (GiGi), and while her departure leaves the family with heavy hearts, we hope to carry forth the love and happiness she gave us every day of our lives; sharing it with others.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and a brother, Donald Kile. Doris is survived by her children, Mari Gaydos (Justin) Smith, Robert (Patricia Turczyn) Gaydos and David Gaydos; a brother Richard (Jeri) Kile; grandchildren Tara (Charlie) Allen, Heather (Matt) True, Daniel Gaydos, Thomas (Colleen) Gaydos and 8 great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her honor to Hope Hospice, who carefully tended to her in her last weeks, through the Development Office, 9470 HealthPark Circle, Fort Myers, FL 33908.

Mari, Robert and David...You may not remember us but our father (Al) and your grandfather (John/Jack we called him) were brothers. We are full of great memories of your Dad and his family. We are sorry to hear that you have lost your Mom. I loved being around her and your Dad. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers and not forgotten.
With love,
Dode (Wright), Mel (Gajdos), Betty (Manke) and Sandy (Williams)

What a wonderful Mom and friend. I know it is a tough time but she is with Barney now and that will make her happy. My deepest sympathies to all of the family, but especially to my dear dear friends, Mari and Jud

Doris worked several years in the CHO lab. We enjoyed talking to her and working with her. I always managed to have a giggle with her and have missed her since she retired. I know you will always have precious memories of her in your hearts. God bless you and comfort you always.

I worked with Doris for many years at Community Hospital in the lab. She was a great person. She used to bring me raspberries for my mom , who loved them. Very sorry for your loss.
