David William Schmitt

David William. Schmitt, 71 of Streator passed away Tuesday morning (November 26, 2024) at his home.

A visitation will be held on Monday from 10a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at the Winterrowd Funeral Home. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 12noon at St. Michael the Archangel Parish Church. Burial will be in St. Anthony’s Cemetery at a later date.

David was born on July 4, 1953, in Streator to Wiemar and Dorothy (Gallick) Schmitt. He married Susan Moran on June 24, 1977. She survives.

Also surviving is his daughter Amy Schmitt of Mahomet, son Gary (Dynae) Schmitt of Pekin, grandchildren Cayden and Hailey and his sister Ruth (Jay) McGrath of Streator.

He is preceded in death by his parents, son Bradley David Schmitt in infancy, a brother Kenneth and a sister Diane in infancy.

David attended St. Stephen’s grade school and graduated from Streator High School in 1971. He was a retired carpenter working for Weimar Schmitt Roofing and Dave Schmitt Construction.

David was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Church, Streator Knights of Columbus as a 2nd degree and was active with the Streator Men’s Bowling League. He enjoyed family vacations, trips to the beach, bird watching, gardening, model trains and especially his grandchildren.
