Barbara A. Tucker, 84, of Kangley (formerly of Odell), passed at 3:02 am on Friday, October 16, 2026, at home surrounded by her loved ones.
Barb was born on July 30, 1942, in Streator, IL to James and Grace (Persinger) DeRossett. She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Darrin “Tuck” Tucker, two brothers, Larry and Vernon DeRossett, two sisters, Linda Masters and Carolyn Brunton; mother-in-law Bernice “Tiny” Tucker; and many beloved family members.
Surviving are her husband, Orrin Tucker, two daughters, Cindy Tucker and Robin Tucker; five grandchildren, Dawn Smith, David Chapman, Donna (Bob) Lanter, Donny (Bobbi) Chapman, and Willow Tucker; sixteen great-grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren, sister, Elaine Kelly, sisters-in-law, Katherine Tucker, Diane Tucker, and Joanne DeRossett; and many treasured nieces and nephews.
Barb danced into Orrin’s life on a Wednesday night. He proposed a month later. Three months later they were married on November 3, 1962. “Can I Have This Dance For the Rest of My Life?” became their song. Nearly 64 years of love, marriage, children, grandchildren, family gatherings, camping, fishing, euchre, and dancing filled her days.
Barb’s grandchildren and their families were her joy. Family was her heartbeat, including the friends she turned into family. No one was a stranger for long. Her quick smile and warm heart impacted any room she entered. Her home was always welcoming and her kitchen never closed.
The 23rd Psalm was a favorite passage. She trusted the Good Shepherd to care for her and her family, until He gently led her home. The family would like to thank OSF Hospice, family and friends who helped care for Barb.
The family will be holding a celebration of life at a later date. In Barb’s honor, the family encourages those touched by Barb to go fishing, plant a tree or flowers, spend time with loved ones and dance.
Service will be held at a future date
