Raymond "Butch" Boyles Jr.

June 10, 1947 — September 4, 2021

Raymond Earl Boyles, Jr. “Butch”, 74, of Sneads Ferry, NC (formerly of Streator, IL) peacefully passed away on the morning of September 4, 2021 @ 10:04am, surrounded by his loving family.

A service, with full military honors, will be at 1pm Saturday at Winterrowd Funeral Home (please dress comfortably). Visitations will be held from 5-7pm on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at Johnson Funeral Home in Jacksonville, NC and 10am-1pm on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at Winterrowd Funeral Home in Streator, IL. A Celebration of Life will follow at 2pm at the American Legion (downstairs).  Inurnment will be at Arlington National Cemetery, at a later date.

Butch was born on June 10, 1947 in Streator to Roma (King) and Raymond Boyles, Sr.

Surviving are his beloved wife of nearly 50 years, Pamela (Elmore) Boyles, children; Erica Moore of VA Beach, VA, Vanessa (Jason) Sapp of Sneads Ferry, NC, Raymond (Keady) Boyles III, “Beau” of Streator, IL and Jared (Cassandra) Boyles “Chunks” of Sneads Ferry, NC, and a daughter of his heart, Thelma Boyles of the Philippines, 16 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, 3 brothers, 2 sisters.

He is preceded in death by his parents, stepfather Whitey Hayes, in-laws Jack and Edna (Pollett) Elmore, brother-in-law Jack Elmore Jr and grandson Jason “Wes” Sapp IV.

Butch attended Streator High School.  He was a proud Navy Veteran, serving on the USS Coontz during the Vietnam War. He retired from GE Plastics in 2003, after 32 years.

Butch was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 217 and VFW Post 1492.  He was, twice, a VFW Post 1492 Commander and a VFW LaSalle County Commander.  He was a volunteer coach for both Streator Youth Softball and Streator Youth Baseball.

He enjoyed spending his retired years on the waters of the east coast; fishing, boating and spending time with his family.

Butch never met a stranger nor an enemy.  He will be greatly missed by his family and friends and his cherished companion, Bella (dog).

Memorials may be made in his name to the Ronald McDonald House or any Veteran’s organization.
