Donald F. Ely, 92 of Cornell passed away Wednesday (August 8th) at the Evenglow Health Care, Pontiac.
Visitation will be held Monday from 10 - 12 noon at the Winterrowd Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Monday at noon at the funeral home with full military honors conducted by members of the Streator VFW and American Legion. Cremation rites will follow services and burial will be in the Cornell Cemetery on Thursday (August 16th) at 10 AM.
Donald was born on March 26, 1926 in Pontiac to Clarence and Elizabeth (Gernentz) Ely. He married Josephine Brunton on May 4, 1947. She survives.
Also surviving are daughter Carol (Leslie) Leach of East Peoria, son Kenneth (Christena) Ely of Titusville, FL, 3 grandchildren, Brian (Ann) Leach of Orland Park, Julie (Nicholas) Powers of Dunlap, Erich (Sara Goldberg) Ely of New York, 4 great-grandchildren, Jacob and Hayley Powers, Grace and Aidan Leach.
He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Evelyn Starker.
Donald graduated from Cornell High School in 1943. He served in the US Army during WWII. Donald retired from farming in the Cornell area and was a member of the Cornell United Methodist Church; Life Member of the Cornell American Legion Post 752; 37th Division Veterans Association; Livingston County Farm Bureau; and a Life Member of the Livingston County War Museum.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either the Cornell United Methodist Church or a charity of the donor’s choice.
